Family offices are privately owned entities established by affluent families to manage their wealth, plan for their families' financial future, engage in investment opportunities and provide other services to family members. Family offices can be formally structured or operated informally. In recent years, families of wealth have come to realize the many benefits of establishing a structured family office, including enhanced control, privacy and customization of their asset allocation, wealth and risk management, and an overall legacy plan.
Day Pitney's Fiduciary and Probate Litigation practice group consists of litigators and trusts and estates lawyers, all of whom have extensive experience in contested trust, estate and guardianship matters. Our attorneys handle all matters related to fiduciary, trust and probate litigation.

The Matrimonial and Family Law practice group assists individuals and families in all aspects of divorce/marriage dissolution, including alimony/spousal support and child support, division of the marital estate, and custody/parenting time, as well as premarital and postnuptial agreements, paternity matters (children born to unmarried parents), and adoption proceedings.

Day Pitney's partners are regularly asked to serve as trustees or co-trustees of trusts established by clients who desire continued involvement of their legal counsel in the stewardship of family wealth, in accordance with their wishes as memorialized in the trust documents. In all cases where a partner serves as a trustee, we work with an independent investment advisor to achieve prudent and effective asset management by establishing and monitoring investment goals, cash requirements, and asset allocation in accordance with the policies and procedures of our Trust Oversight Committee.

With one of the largest and most sophisticated trusts and estates practices in the country, Day Pitney's Trusts and Estates practice group provides the full range of services needed by individuals and their families as well as fiduciaries.
