Valley Health Settles with Horizon Over OMNIA Tiered Plans
Mike Furey was quoted in several articles, including "Valley Health latest to settle with Horizon over OMNIA plans," published by NJBIZ; "Horizon averts trial over whether it pushed community hospitals out of N.J. health care market," published by NJ.com; and "Horizon settles OMNIA suit with last hospital," published by ROI-NJ. As noted in the articles, Valley Health System has settled its long-running lawsuit with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey over the insurer's OMNIA tiered plan. The settlement was reached on the day the trial was set to begin and marks the end of litigation that began in 2015. In addition to Valley Health, Day Pitney represented two other hospitals, CentraState Medical Center and Holy Name Medical Center, which were involved in the litigation and settled previously.
In a statement, Furey said, "Valley Health System is pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Horizon that is beneficial to the hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents Valley serves. The agreement helps ensure Valley's ability to serve its community for years to come." Additionally, he told NJBIZ, "We are gratified that, through the terms of this agreement, Horizon and Valley will continue our longstanding relationship, working together to assist our mutual communities to live longer, better and healthier lives."
The settlement and Day Pitney's representation of Valley Health was also covered in a Law360 article, "Horizon Settles With Last Hospital In Tiered Plan Suit."
