Daniel FitzMaurice, a Hartford-based partner at Day Pitney LLP, has been elected chairman of the AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society (ARIAS?U.S.) for 2011. For the past year, Mr. FitzMaurice has served as ARIAS?U.S. president.

ARIAS?U.S. is a not-for-profit corporation that seeks to improve the insurance and reinsurance arbitration process by providing training and education in the skills necessary to serve effectively on an insurance/reinsurance panel. The leading trade association for the insurance and reinsurance arbitration industry, ARIAS?U.S. has more than 1200 members, which include insurance and reinsurance companies, professional arbitrators, and law firms with substantial interest and involvement in the arbitration process.

Mr. FitzMaurice is a partner in Day Pitney's Insurance and Reinsurance Disputes practice, where he represents clients in trials, arbitrations, and appeals of complex commercial disputes in the United States and internationally. He speaks frequently at national and international conferences on issues relating to reinsurance, insurance, financial services, arbitration and trial practice.

Mr. FitzMaurice received a J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law, and a B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Connecticut.
