Summer Associate Program Overview
Day Pitney's Summer Associate Program provides a comprehensive overview of life as an associate at the firm. The summer program is designed to provide meaningful exposure to our work, people, and culture.
Our smaller summer associate class size allows us to get to know you and your professional goals. This personalized approach enables us to provide tailored opportunities and support to help you develop the skills needed for a successful legal career.
Some of the highlights of our Summer Associate Program include:
- Flexible work assignment process with frequent check-ins on practice preferences
- Interesting and challenging projects that reflect the variety of real client work at the firm
- Engage with industry leaders and gain hands-on experience
- Substantive skills development training programs in addition to shadowing and observational opportunities
- Designated partner and associate mentors, work assignment coordinators, and program chairs to provide support throughout the summer
- Networking opportunities and social events designed to help you build relationships with colleagues across all offices
- Receive constructive feedback on your work through both formal and informal evaluations
Position Qualifications

To be eligible for consideration, you must be a second-year law student (expected to receive J.D. in 2027). Applicants must demonstrate:

- Demonstrated interest in our practice areas and industry sectors, including relevant coursework, skills, and work experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to career development

- Meaningful connections to the geographic markets we serve and a genuine interest in joining Day Pitney as an associate after law school graduation

The following office locations will host 2L Summer Associates: Connecticut (Hartford, Stamford), Florida (Miami), Massachusetts (Boston), and New Jersey (Parsippany).

As part of your application, you will be required to upload a cover letter, resume, an unofficial copy of your law school transcript, and a two-to-three-page writing sample from your academic or work experience for which you are the sole author (examples include a memo, brief, or short research paper).
