Prospective Associates
Overview
At Day Pitney, we embrace a work environment in which professionals will take the time to explain the nuances of law to help associates build specialized knowledge. We have leanly staffed teams that provide hands-on experience and client contact, and associates receive the mentoring and support to help foster growth opportunities and reach their career goals.
Our attorneys are strongly invested in mentoring and developing colleagues, recognize the importance of nurturing the skills and talents of our associates, and continually demonstrate the firm's commitment to their future.
Associates are always part of the action. They are given opportunities to be key contributors on sophisticated legal matters early in their careers, while receiving mentoring and support along the way. Our associates have tried cases to verdict, led important deals and estate plans, and briefed and argued dispositive motions in multimillion-dollar cases, among other notable achievements.
Our approach—team support blended with individual accountability—accelerates associates' professional development and enhances their satisfaction with daily work and career advancement.
At Day Pitney, every person is treated with respect. Our attorneys and staff work collaboratively across offices and practices, and there is a very strong sense of camaraderie and mutual respect.

Training & Development
Day Pitney provides associates with the opportunity to become great lawyers by delivering exceptional training and offering engaging, hands-on experience as well as mentoring.
Challenging Assignments
Associates are assigned to a practice group, based on the associate's preferences and the firm's needs. At Day Pitney, associates who demonstrate the ability to do so work directly with clients, negotiate deals, go to court and take depositions.
Extensive Legal Training
Associate development and training are a priority at Day Pitney. Our associates access a broad spectrum of legal education opportunities. Internally, the firm conducts firm-wide seminars several times a year, in addition to monthly department and practice group meetings and presentations, and special programs on such topics as negotiations, depositions and finance. In addition, associates join in training sessions delivered by individual departments that cover a broad array of business- and trial-related topics.
All attorneys are encouraged to attend external seminars and programs—underwritten by the firm—to strengthen their skills and enhance their performance. Day Pitney also provides tracking support for those attorneys who are admitted in states that require mandatory CLE.
Guidance and Feedback
We are dedicated to training and mentoring our associates. Associates learn by doing, working side by side with more experienced colleagues. These interactions build associates' knowledge of the law and help enhance the ways in which they deliver client service.
We make it a practice to provide regular, informal feedback to associates, in addition to providing a more formal annual performance review process.
