Purchase of U.S. Real Estate by Foreign Nationals

Carl Merino presented a seminar on tax and estate planning for foreign nationals during the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund's Annual Day of Philanthropy in San Francisco on November 7. The seminar, "Purchase of U.S. Real Estate by Foreign Nationals," covered U.S. income, gift and estate tax considerations for non-U.S. individuals buying homes and other property in the U.S., including the use of "blocker" corporations, partnerships and trusts and other techniques to reduce U.S. tax exposure. The discussion also touched on the potential impact of the tax bill recently introduced in the House and new reporting requirements that could affect foreign owners of U.S. disregarded entities.
