Federal Bar Association: The Twenty-Six Words That Created The Internet
Massachusetts Chapter of the Federal Bar Association
On May 19, Partner Jonathan Handler moderated a virtual book talk for the Massachusetts Chapter of the Federal Bar Association with Professor Jeff Kosseff, author of The Twenty-Six Words That Created the Internet. The discussion centered around Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which states: "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider."
Once little known, Section 230 has recently become a source of major controversy and provides the battle ground on which elected leaders, consumer advocates, and the world's major tech companies fight over the regulation of–and potential liability for–content that appears on the internet.
