Day Pitney Welcomes Former Chief Justice Richard A. Robinson to Litigation Department
Day Pitney LLP is pleased to announce that Richard A. Robinson, former Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, will be joining the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the Appellate Practice Group, effective today. Chief Justice Robinson, who retired from the bench earlier this month, will be based in Day Pitney's Hartford office.
Chief Justice Robinson made history in 2018 as the first Black Chief Justice of Connecticut's highest court, following five years as an Associate Justice. Throughout his 24 years of service in the Connecticut Judiciary, Justice Robinson earned widespread respect for his leadership, integrity, and dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within the judicial system. Known for his balanced approach—"humble yet assertive, confident without ego, intellectually curious, and respected by all"—he leaves a legacy of innovation in fostering an equitable and inclusive court system. As co-chair of the Blueprint for Racial Justice Fairness & Awareness Working Group, Justice Robinson has been a leading voice on DE&I issues nationwide, frequently delivering training and speaking on cultural competency.
"We are thrilled to welcome Chief Justice Robinson to Day Pitney," said Gregory A. Hayes, Managing Partner at Day Pitney. "His distinguished career, both on the bench and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion, aligns perfectly with our firm's values. His wisdom, leadership, and experience will be an incredible asset to our firm and clients."
In addition to his appellate practice, Chief Justice Robinson will focus on DE&I initiatives working with the firm's existing DE&I team. Day Pitney's commitment to DE&I is further reinforced by its four affinity groups, which are actively engaged in firm-wide efforts to create an inclusive workplace.
Chief Justice Robinson will also be reunited with former Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers, who joined Day Pitney in 2018 after her own distinguished tenure on the Connecticut Supreme Court. This new chapter strengthens the firm's deep ties to the Connecticut judiciary, which includes over a dozen former Day Pitney attorneys who have ascended to the bench in recent years.
