Emma K. Pletenycky Receives Pro Bono Award from the City Bar Justice Center
Day Pitney is proud to announce that Emma K. Pletenycky is the recipient of one of the City Bar Justice Center’s 2024 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Awards. Pletenycky, a Private Client Associate in the firm’s New York office, is one of just nine award recipients of more than 2,000 volunteers who worked with the CBJC this past year. She will accept her award on October 22 at the CBJC’s Celebrate Pro Bono Awards ceremony.
Pletenycky was nominated by the CBJC’s Planning and Estates Law Project (PELP) for her contributions to the project. Her involvement with PELP dates back to law school, when she volunteered as a law student intern, where she attended clinics and assisted with the preparation of the Surrogate’s Court documents. Since then, she has served as a volunteer attorney and member of the panel, regularly assisting New Yorkers with end-of-life planning, probate, and administration matters.
In her practice, Pletenycky assists high net worth individuals and families with trust and estate planning, including the preparation of wills and trusts, drafting Surrogate's Court documents, and assisting clients with all aspects of estate and trust administration. Before joining Day Pitney, Pletenycky served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Rita Mella, Surrogate of New York County, where she drafted decisions and conferred on complex and novel issues before the court in contested probate and administration proceedings. While in law school, she served as administrator of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit’s mediation program, interned for the Honorable Peter J. Kelly, Surrogate of Queens County, and the Honorable Laura Visitacion-Lewis (Ret.), Justice of the New York County Supreme Court. Pletenycky is the vice-chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates Law Section Mediation Committee.
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate Emma's dedication to pro bono work. Her commitment to making a difference exemplifies the spirit of service that is part of the foundation of our firm, and we are thrilled for her to be recognized for her outstanding contributions," commented Theresa Kelly, chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee.
The CBJC provides free civil legal services, benefiting approximately 25,000 New Yorkers in need each year. For more information about the CBJC or the award, click here.
