Day Pitney Hosts Annual Palm Beach Family Office Forum
Day Pitney hosted its annual invitation-only Family Office Forum in Palm Beach. The theme for the 2018 Forum was "Protecting Your Family and Wealth in the Global Digital Economy: A Forum Exploring Security Risks and Investment Opportunities." R. Scott Beach, Chair of Day Pitney's Corporate and Business Law department and head of its Family Office practice, welcomed approximately 75 attendees, provided the opening remarks and introduced featured speakers and panelists along with Todd Kesterson, Principal of Family Office Services at Kaufman Rossin, who co-sponsored the program.
The conference provided an in-depth discussion of practical steps for safeguarding family members and their assets and cybersecurity best practices for families and their businesses as well as investment risks, opportunities and trends in cybersecurity, data analytics and blockchain.
Paul Viollis, CEO of Viollis Group International and National Security & Law Enforcement Analyst for CBS News, gave a riveting and informative presentation on security risks and protections (for both physical and financial assets) that was followed by a panel discussion on improved cybersecurity for family offices moderated by Kesterson with panelists Jed Davis, Partner, Cybersecurity and Data Protection and Government Enforcement practice groups, Day Pitney, and Jorge Rey, Director, Information Security & Compliance, Kaufman Rossin.
A second presentation was given by Michael Janke, Co-founder of DataTribe, former member of the Navy SEAL Team 6 and a recipient of the Center for Technology & Democracy's "Visionary of the Year" Award. Following his presentation, there was a panel discussion on securing investments in emerging technologies moderated by David Waizer, Partner, Entrepreneurs and Emerging Companies practice group, Day Pitney and panelists included Marc Bell, Founder and Managing Partner, Marc Bell Capital Partners; David K.A. Mordecai, Managing Member, Numerati Partners and Lead Scientist, Risk Econ® Lab at Courant NYU; and Janke.
