1 Size Does Not Fit All NJ Hospital Property Tax Exemptions

Christopher John Stracco and Michael James Guerriero wrote the article, “1 Size Does Not Fit All NJ Hospital Property Tax Exemptions,” in Law360. The article discusses a decision issued on June 26 by the Tax Court of New Jersey that could have far ranging impact on other nonprofit hospitals in New Jersey. The Tax Court of New Jersey invalidated a significant portion of the real property tax exemption of Morristown Medical Center, a facility which is part of the Atlantic Health System. The Tax Court found that certain aspects of the hospital were making profit, which disqualified it from qualifying for a non-profit.
